About Sheila Banga

Sheila Banga Sheila works in pencil, soft pastel, and acrylic. She received formal art training at the University of Regina. After years of doing "other things" she was finally able to find the time to renew her passion for art.

Receiving a suitcase of old family photographs that no one else wanted inspired me to start drawing again. The photos have been a huge resource for my drawings depicting the early 1900's in Stockholm Saskatchewan Canada. "I love to be able to capture the moment in time, the feeling of family and friends working together to build a community, a reminder of where we came from."

Pet Portraits are one of my favorites. Many of the portraits are memorials. Being able to capture the personality and likeness of the subject can sometimes be a challenge, especially when working from old photographs that are often not the best quality. There is great pleasure when a successful portrait is complete and you have brought happiness to their family. After a memorial portrait of Jazzy, a nineteen year old black lab/border collie cross was picked up I received the following email: Everyone loved my dog Jazzy. When my mom came to my house and I showed her the portrait, she broke down into tears and said, "Jazzy is back home again!" so thanks for bringing my dog "back to life" - Sarah This is one the greatest compliments I have ever received and will always remember. A couple of weeks later I was commissioned by Sarah to do a portrait of her current family member Tryx.

In 2002 I joined the HeARTland Artist's Guild (formally the Regina North Artists' Guild). That same year through the Guild my first painting sold to the Regina North Zone Board and later that same year I had success selling at the Guild's anual show/sale. I continues to be a member of the guild, a member of the Regina Art Galllery and a member of Artists Who Care. As well as the Guild annual show/sale at the Argyle Park Community Center every April, I exibit work at the Regina Art Gallery members show/sales and with the Artist's Who Care at the
Alan Blair Cancer Clinic

My subject varies from portraits to landscape, realistic to abstract. "I get inspired by trying new mediums, concepts and techniques. Life is never dull when you are creating art that pushes you to explore new ideas!"

My paintings and portraits have found homes in private collections across Canada.
